The effect can be nice if you select a muted color, or you can brighten a white room with a bold color. Determine how someone enters the room and where they are most likely to go, such as to a sofa or desk chair, then arrange the furniture so people can use paths without obstacle. Make sure to allow enough room to perform tasks ordinary to the room, such as opening and closing window coverings and reaching for light switches.

One way to create a bold declaration with your living space décor is to update the whole room. This look begins with taking away all the clutter. A contemporary living space should be as open and roomy as possible. If some things must be stored there (DVDs, books, etc.), try to find storage units that close or serve another function as well. An end table that also stores a movie compilation will make the room feel less busy while performing its primary function at the same time.
